Drop off old car battery, get $5

MYRTLE BEACH - Motorists can drop off old marine or car batteries for recycling at four locations along the Grand Strand and get $ 5.
The Earth Day effort, sponsored by AAA Carolinas, continues until April 30 throughout the Carolinas. Drivers get $ 5 for each auto batteries turned in to one of 33 AAA Car Care Centers or 56 approved auto repair shops in the Carolinas.
The program is open to all drivers, not just AAA members.
The local drop off places, according to AAA Carolinas: Archer's Action Auto Service Center, 103 Gardner Lacy Road in Myrtle Beach; DeFalco's Auto and Towing, 635 US 17 South in Surfside Beach; Dart Automotive, 1039 US 501 in Conway and Parsons Auto Repair , 310 S. Fraser St. in Georgetown.
"Improperly disposed batteries do serious harm to our environment," David E. Parsons, president and CEO of AAA Carolinas, said in a news release.
